Uplink Privacy Policy

Uplink is a macOS menu bar app that monitors your internet connection. This policy explains what Uplink does and does not do with your information. The short version: Uplink does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.

Information we collect

None. Uplink has no servers, no accounts, no logins, and no analytics. We do not collect, receive, or store any information about you or your device.

Information stored on your Mac

To do its job, Uplink keeps a small amount of data locally on your Mac. This data never leaves your device.

• Connection history. A rolling log of connection events (latency spikes, packet-loss events, outages, WAN IP and ISP changes, Wi-Fi / Ethernet / VPN switches) is written inside Uplink's app container. Entries older than one year are pruned automatically. You can export this history to a CSV file of your choosing, and you can clear it at any time, from the History window.
• Preferences. Your Uplink settings (ping target, check interval, sensitivity preset, latency and packet-loss thresholds, WAN IP check frequency, launch-at-login, menu bar readout, notifications toggle) and your last-known WAN IP address are saved to macOS User Defaults for Uplink's app container.

Network activity

Uplink makes two kinds of network requests. Both are initiated by your Mac and scoped to measuring the health of your connection.

• Pings. Uplink sends ICMP echo requests to a ping target you configure (default: 8.8.8.8) to measure latency and packet loss. You can change the target to any host you prefer.
• WAN IP lookups. On a schedule you configure, Uplink fetches your current public IP address and ISP over HTTPS from a single public API endpoint (api.ipinfo.io). The response is validated before being displayed.

No other network requests are made. Uplink does not contact any analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking services.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, Uplink uses the standard macOS notification system to alert you locally when your connection crosses a threshold, your public IP changes, or your connection type switches. These notifications are generated and delivered on your Mac; nothing is sent to us.

Tracking

Uplink does not track you, does not use advertising identifiers, and does not share any information with third parties. It contains no third-party SDKs for analytics, crash reporting, or advertising.

Children

Uplink is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
